Robert W. Service (1874-1958) was famous for his unusual poems. He spent some time in the cold North, and published this poem in 1907 in “Songs of a Sourdough.” This poem although somewhat creepy, has a humorous ending. This story poem became a traditional campfire story in North America in the 20th century. Read by Sherman Brown, resident and actor.
