Chief park ranger, Marin County parks, and volunteer for the program Living with Coyotes, Rob Ruiz presented a lecture on this native animal that was once nearly exterminated through government-funded poisoning, trapping and snaring programs – and are now recolonizing much of the Bay Area. As opportunistic omnivores – and the largest native carnivores in many areas – coyotes help maintain eco-system integrity and species diversity in a variety of ways. As coyotes tend to keep a low profile, avoiding humans whenever possible, this lecture reminds us that with wildland comes wildlife. (2015)
