Jonathan Bailey, a Rossmoor resident and professor at the Fromm Institute for Lifelong Learning, leads viewers through a tour of the life and work of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II. Rodgers and Hammerstein II are considered the greatest musical partnership of the 20th century. They collaborated on 11 musicals between 1943 and 1959 including “Oklahoma!,” “South Pacific," and “The Sound of Music.” In this lecture, Bailey will investigate how the artistic output of Rodgers and Hammerstein reflected the conscience of America and how truly progressive they were for their day.
