Spires is interviewed by Ronald Wren about The Spirit of Phantom Ridge, a supernatural historical novel spanning two timelines and centered on a lynched Black sharecropper forced to confront vengeance, mercy, and justice nearly a century later. Born and based in the San Francisco Bay Area, Spires is a retired civil engineering construction professional whose volunteer work with inmates at the California Correctional Center in Susanville deepened his awareness of social inequities reflected in the novel.
